Fall/Winter
2009
Hi
All,
I
hope you're all enjoying this wonderful autumn we're
having--living in New England it's my favorite season
of course!. Last May I had the pleasure of recording
with good friend Bruce
Katz (Hammond, piano) and new friend Joel
Frahm for their upcoming CD on Anzic
Records titled Project A, an instrumental
jazz album of the songs of Aretha Franklin.
To celebrate the release, the full recording band
(including bass icon Jerry
Jemmott ) performed for three nights in early
September at the upscale Jazz Standard in NYC.
Bruce is a dear friend (we began the Bruce Katz Band
many moons ago), and he's currently performing with
the Allman Brothers among others. Joel is an
amazing player, and a top call guy in the NYC jazz
scene. It was a treat and an education to back
them both up on drums. Project
A has been a resounding success and has spent
many weeks in the Top Ten of the Roots Jazz Radio
Report, including a couple of weeks at #1!
In the world of jazz that doesn't translate to being
rich and famous, but it does mean that lots of folks
are enjoying this disc, and for that we're grateful.

ANOTHER
NEW
BAND--THE SUPRAPHONICS
Kevin
Barry and Dave Limina have been dear friends of mine
for near twenty years. Kevin has been indispensible
to many of my CD productions, not the least playing
guitars AND bass on Lori
McKenna's breakout CD Bittertown
(WB). Dave being a Hammond organist without
equal, he Kevin and I have formed a new organ trio
called The Supraphonics.
I'm truly thrilled with this project, as there appears
to be no limit to what can be tapped with these talented
guys. Eventually we will record--hopefully in
2010 sometime. But right now we're content to
perform in local clubs around New England, working
to define the music and the sound of the band.
Current gigs are posted at my
Myspace page--come on out and let me know what
you think!

THE
SHINOLAS -- A SUCCESS STORY
As
you may remember, The Shinolas started in early 2009
as simply a way for guitarist Jim Chapdelaine and
myself to have a regular local gig here in Hartford---you
know, sing some songs, invite friends to sit in, have
a good time and be home by ten. Well, the band
has succeeded beyond all expectations! The audiences
on Monday nights at Tapas
have been amazing, and the musical guests inspiring--Big
Al Anderson, John Pousette Dart, Gary Burr, and Rani
Arbo to drop a few names. The Shinolas is our
tribute to Americana music, and the whole band (including
Paul Kochanski on bass and Ed Irarusso on pedal steel)
takes turns singing classic and obscure country and
roots rock. After only 6 months in existence
we were featured in Hartford Magazine and
won Best Country Band in the readers poll of the Hartford
Advocate! (I know some of you are thinking,
that's like being the best bobsled team in Jamaica--but
let us bask in the glow of our hometown fame please!)
The cover charge is NOTHING, and if you come down
on November 16 you'll hear us put singer songwriter
Mark Erelli through
the paces as he sings some songs by Johnny Cash and
Merle Haggard. For a free night on the town
it doesn't get any better than this.
L
to R Ed, Lorne, Paul and Jim
Thanks
again for visiting my site folks. There'll be
more news to come--meanwhile come on out and hear
some music!
Peace,
Lorne
PS.
For those of you who missed the tribute to my parents
it can still be found HERE.
